The Outdoor Center will be a premier destination for sailing, kayaking, canoeing, rowing, and stand-up paddle boarding (SUP). It will act as a multipurpose center of distinction for the west coast, creating new jobs and increasing revenue to the Rogue Valley by offering recreation and training opportunities to the regional community and to elite athletes from around the country.
It is designed to be over 12,000 sq.ft and outlined to be a phased construction project. It will be large enough to host not only rowing shells and Rogue Rowing’s current operations, which is expected to triple in size over the next ten years, but will also host watercraft, equipment and members of the non-motorized sports community who enjoy the lake.
Rogue Rowing will supervise and manage the facility and make available to visitors and the community, rentals of canoes, kayaks, SUP’s and sailboats. Additionally, the Outdoor Center will be available to rent for community events, meetings and weddings.
Helped by a $100,000 grant from Jackson County, Rogue Rowing and Jackson County recently completed a contract for the first design phase for the new building. The winners of the nationwide competition were Anmahian Winton Architects based out of Cambridge, MA.
Their resume is impressive but they are best known in the rowing world for building one of the most award-winning community boathouses in the country at Community Rowing, Inc. in Boston, MA.
